TN: The expression used by Tenth, ゴミ屋敷 (gomiyashiki) literally translates to "trash house", but it's also a term used to describe a hoarder's house.

Hello /animu/.
I'm the current temporary Board Owner for /lang/, a board on the anon.cafe based on learning languages and translating stuff. A few anons on another board mentioned that they fear that the 8ch scanlation community shouldn't be split up, so I was wondering if it would be of any interest to you to have a dedicated scanlation thread over at /lang/, where you could jointly work with /a/ folk as well as other freelancers.
Mind you, this is not some move to rob /a/ of users, on the contrary, it would be a way to coordinate translation efforts as well as teach newcomers to the craft a thing or two. I will obviously put disclaimers and referrals to the actual /a/ and /animu/ threads for that purpose.
So, what do you say?
>>5289
>the community is split into 2, this is no good so we should split it into 3
It's a good idea on paper but unless scanlation threads are outright banned both here and /a/, it will have the opposite effect than intended.

There seems to be a difference in font size between the pages. Maybe leaving them all with the same suitable font size would help fill the entire page (or at least more of it) with text.

TN: something came up in page 07 that clarified what was bothering me on page 04.
When commenting on how many times she had masturbated, Kawashima mentions オナ (ona), which is an abbreviation of オナニー (onanii, engrish for onanism), masturbation. However, she does mentions it as a descriptor of some kind. I found it a bit confusing but brushed it off as a slang or something. But now I think it's clear it's supposed to be a pejorative title for someone who jacks off too much. So I'm changing the line to include the therm Jack-addict.

<UWAAAAAAAAAAAA

<I did it again!

<I passed out masturbating and mom had to come and cover me with a futon...

TN: Kawashima literally mentions 親 (oya) meaning "parent" or "superior figure", while I find unlikely that that woman would actually be her older sister (why not call her 姉 if that was the case?) I also found strange that her mom would barge in asking for porn. So who knows...
>>5292
Might want to crop that line on the left bottom side out of the title page image. Could be one of those sneaky DRM identifiers that barcodes which download this is. At least it looks like one. It will identify who downloaded this particular chapter from the website and at the very least ban you if not take you to court.
>>5315
Good eye. Now that I'm looking, there seems to be something else written along that side too. Maybe if the anon who stitched the other ones together could do a better job at extracting raws from there. For now I'll keep using my prtscrn crops to translate.

Now not so spooky.
Searching vnqpv-czmsfjpt.vnq (what I can make from that image) it returns me pages from comic-valkyrie, with slight variations of what I typed.
Also, the dark bar from the title page is part of the next page's dark area. It wasn't my fault, since I cropped the pages from individual page viewing mode. Meaning some intern must have cropped those pages poorly for their website.
However what I found to be really interesting is that that first link takes me to chapter 17's raws, which are supposedly not accessible from the website's links in https://www.comic-valkyrie.com/teisou/
It probably will be erased soon, must be a temporary oversight, since the newest chapter just came out. Trying to access chapter 16 just gives me 404.

tl;dr: probably not DRM, must be some different kind of watermark
>>5308

More translations, good stuff!
The オナニー bit is something of a Japanese slang/quirk. As you know, Japanese nouns are supposed to be turned into verbs with -する. It's become a form of slang to "verb" nouns by slapping the standard -る format on them instead. One example is ググル (Google) becoming ググる (to Google). Kawashima does this to オナニー, which makes it more slangy, similar to "jacking off".
Because of this, I think your previous translation of 19-04 panel 3 is correct.

>>5311

This is probably a joking reference to Azuma Kiyohiko, who drew porn before making it big with the all-ages Azumanga Daioh and Yotsubato.
Ah! But Hirakiyo-sensei's in this one!

19-08 panel 1
>It's a bit refreshing, looking at a work from that diligent era, considering his current image of a hit manga artist.
...Still, now that she's a hit manga artist, reading her hardcore porn work is really refreshing.

>It's like finding an idol or a voice actor who had a past as an adult video actor. The erotic business sure is something...
It's as erotic as finding an idol or voice actor's past work in adult videos.

19-12
<I passed out masturbating and mom had to come and cover me with a futon...
Regarding the TN, Kawashima's mentioned previously that her mom is as perverted as she is, and that they often share porn.

Might have a go at this I need a project. Its may take time though I have difficulty doing cleaning especially if it involves redrawing. For consistency's sake what fonts were used in the previous one? I recognize WildWords but not the other one.

Oh hang on, where can I get actual raws? They don't seem to be on Madokami. The posted images are annotated for some reason.

You can check the raws on https://www.comic-valkyrie.com/samplebook/val_teisou19/
But it won't let you dl the images directly, so you'll either need to do some stich work yourself or crop my pics.

I can help with redrawing. I could just remove the Japanese text and post the blank pages if you want.

Also here's some of the fonts I used in a previous chapter. I also tend to use Komika Title fonts for various shouting and such, there's many different variations. Although I used Komika Hand for generic emphasis, it's kind of shitty so I wouldn't use it anymore.
>>5618
I may actually have underestimated it there's a fair bit of redrawing involved. Noted the fonts though for future reference.

I've tried to assemble a final script to go by from the annotations and thread comments, src/script_wip.txt but I don't know any Japanese so it will definitely need to be looked through and confirmed. About to start the typesetting they'll be pushed to wip/ gradually. Trouble pages 01 04 12 and 17 are only partially cleaned right now and will be done on a need-to basis depending on the text. Short update today.
To the Sparrow: We should figure a way to differentiate between foreign speech and japanese speech in these bubbles. Maybe an asterisk would suffice, but I'll let the final decision to you.

40-21

=1==
>So they sent you to kill us?

>No... We were supposed to do everything we could to capture Mikado and Makura alive.

>And in case capturing you were too difficult... We were told to not damage your heads.

=2==
>Who gave that order?

>The head of some organization...
>I don't know all the details but,
>Our boss met with this japanese man in a hotel in Mexico City,
>I think that's when they settled a contract,
>For this whole thing.

=3==
>Do you know the name of this Japanese man?

>I-I don't, I swear!

=4==
>He didn't tell any lies.
>That's all true.

40-22

=1==
>Besides... It seems like that's all the info we can get from this man at this point.

>Agreed.

>Looks like you know more about this whole thing than you're letting us know.

=2==
>I can't say more right now.
>I'm pretty sure this man can't understand japanese, but,

>We can't risk any kind of information leak back to the Gran Tres.

=3==
>We could, however,
>Deal with him ourselves to prevent that.

=5==

Original requester here. I'm still offering to do the cleaning/editing side. It's mostly straightforward, again, except for the commentary page and the covers (if necessary). I'm also somewhat capable of picking up on Neptunia references, if not, the /v/ Neptunia thread can help with that too. Also there's no need to do the whole thing in one go when it's split into pieces like that. 3-18, 21-28, 31-42.

Here's a suggested TN addition because of official name translations. Putting it in the margins or at the end would work:
TN: "Hero Neptune" is also called "Brave Neptunia" and "Super Neptunia RPG"

Cross-linked to the /v/ thread. If it's about SNRPG I will definitely not get certain references since I haven't beaten it. It really was a dismal Nep game even for the series. I'm starting on the editing for now but a few important comments.

>Hero Neptunia
>Super Neptunia RPG ( 勇者ネプテューヌ
世界よ宇宙よ刮目せよ!! アルティメットRPG宣言!!, lit. Brave Neptune: World & Universe! Pay Attention!! Ultimate RPG Declaration!
The original English title was "Brave Neptune" but changed to Super Neptunia RPG because people were expecting an action game. I'm guessing the Japanese title saw no such change.

>Beeru
That's the Japs' best attempt at "Vert" (French for "green"). The four mains are Neptune (see how awkward THAT is in Japanese, the series makes fun of it several times) Noire Blanc and Vert with Purple Black White and Green Heart as their transformed forms respectively (localized as "Hard Dive Divinity", similarly the goddesses are usually referred to as "Console Patron Units"). Nations they preside over are Planeptune, Lastation, Lowee, Leanbox respectively.

Also what's with the furigana in this?
>>6441
This is >>6436 , after reading what >>6437 posted, a few changes:
It turns out the common translation of the Japanese name is "Brave Neptune: World and Universe! Pay Attention!!" like he wrote. Thus, the sign in page 05 panel 1 and panel 5 needs to be changed.

Throughout all four pages, the single apostrophe has been doubled. This is on page 03 panel 2 (that"s), page 03 panel 4 (Heart"s and That"s), page 04 panel 1 (It"s), page 04 panel 2 (can"t), page 04 panel 3 (Doesn"t), page 05 panel 2 (I"ve), page 05 panel 3 (It"s and didn"t), page 06 panel 3 (thats), page 06 panel 4 (thats), and page 06 panel 5 (that"s).

Also, on page 06 panel 5, "people''s" should be "people's", and "rummage" should be "rummages".

I don't mean to sound too negative, especially since this is a WIP. It looks nice, the words and fonts are clean.

Neptune's country is "Planeptune", which is a mouthful.
...You've still got a mountain of work, yet you called four very busy goddesses and got them involved, so you should at least do a proper job advertising. You're such a handful sometimes... First off, you are far too lax regarding your position as a goddess, Neptune-san. There are many, many tasks you should perform with the future of Planeptune in mind. Even in regards to this situation, I'm certain you started all this on a whim, but if you had planned ahead and decided on a proper presentation beforehand you wouldn't have ended up having to hear my lengthy, tedious lecture...

On page 12 panel 3, the bit that currently says "(seems friendly, quiet)" should be replaced with "sexy scene". The bit that currently says "sexy scene" is a sound effect: specifically, the sound effect of opening something (meant to be a joke on "showing it off" or "baring it all").

>>6694
Hold it! That's only the intro, there's still 2 other parts left, and ideally also the final commentary though I will not be capable of editing the text out of that, it'll have to be put on its own page. I just did the credit page in advance because why not. Also I'd like this to be delayed a few days once "complete" so /v/ can check it, and also where to upload it to.

Also the work in question is official, and ties into Super Neptunia RPG, a game co-developed by some Canadian studio. Unfortunately it's mostly reviled for being bad gameplay-wise even for the series. Worse than that is that it feels technically even cheaper than normal where most Neptunia games at least don't have load times and stutter and extremely janky platforming. There are a couple of things they got right though and it could've been much much worse. At least they kept the fanservice. Except on PS4 where it's steamier.

>>6693
Isn't there something language-specific to explain though?
TL here

Twitter https://mobile.twitter.com/mikagebaku
I don't know who to credit as author, since they credit "Idea Factory Compile Heart" there. Maybe just repeat the mangaka's name, it will be less confusing for someone looking it up I think.

>>6695
I think anon is just making the title's page on mangadex, where chapters will be uploaded then. We can release each chapter separately as they get ready, each with its own credit page/joke too. It's better for exposition imo.
Regarding that TN, there isn't much more explaining to do. They leave implicit that "yuusha" mistakenly is an English anagram for "you shark". A terrible pun, as per Japanese standards.

QC here, sorry, I should have explained the dumb joke. Regarding page 16:
The joke is that the kanji for "yuu" is next to the English word "You" and the kanji for "sha" is next to the English word "Shark". Supposedly the Canadian Neptunia team saw Neptune's spiky hair and said "You Shark!!" which became "yuusha", or "Hero".

In terms of typesetting, maybe we can get this joke across by making top red bubble
And that's how they came up with the title "Hero (yuusha, You-Shark) Neptune"...
(The bottom red bubble, "That's a dad-joke!", is correct.)
>>6687
QC again, forgot to add: about the wording for the game title, I suggest sticking with "Hero Neptune: World and Universe! Pay Attention!!" for the later pages. All the stories play directly off the idea that Neptune is or isn't the Hero, so "Brave" won't make much sense in context. The bit about "The Ultimate RPG Announcement!!" was only for the first story, since it was about announcing/advertising the game.
(431.08 KB 2470x4096 Punching bag.jpg)
>>6696
I'm actually not sure! The publisher is Kadokawa but I'd probably just go by the mangaka as said. Might ask on /v/. The thread's due for bumping anyway. Also I guess I don't mind it being uploaded in stages but please wait at least a day after I declare a part done, I'm prone to noticing stupid blunders after "finishing" something as it is.

>>6701
Not virtual reality in this case. Also not loli, Blanc is just flat and it's not a focus of the series even with her sisters Rom and Ram.

>>6702
That's what I needed! I'll probably word it as:

I was thinking of translating the titles as we went. Sometimes context is important, so it might be best to not try to guess what they mean right away.
>>6714
02.jpg is the ToC though and will have to be released as part of the first part. I already know what the first one is if translated right:

It'd look silly to leave it unedited or only half-done.

Dealing with those tomorrow though I haven't done any cleaning yet. Also I can usually figure out where text goes if doing those annotated images is annoying.

I say leave 02 untranslated. It's what we do with our other titles, like Kouya. Index pages stay as is, in Japanese.
And don't worry, I like making annotated pages, makes it easier for other people to read without having to scroll between image and text all the time.

21-26. I'm leaving the massive text on 24 and 25 alone since it's outside my level. Otherwise the editing was pretty simple.

The Dogoos are way too cute in this, and also in SNRPG you do get a helper pudding-Dogoo that you can summon and use as a platform. There was some potential for a Metroid-style game. Like imagine pudding Dogoo as a springy jump pad, or Pixelvader letting you become skinny or enter 2D worlds, and so on. Like the partners or paper morphs in the Paper Mario series. What a shame. A Neptunia Mega Man game would be neat too.

And done. The double pages were pretty easy this time around. Most of them lined up fine. It's Thanksgiving here in the US so I might be busy but please do leave your fix suggestions and I'll get to them with downtime.
>>6762
>>6763
Looking forward to finishing that! Mangadex release may as well wait until this part is done given how short it is. Also given I know the titles and guessed what おまけ meant I may as well do the ToC page. I mean why not? Not sure what to use as credit page if it's worth doing for a short part like this. Any ideas?
>>6775
If you want to release it entirely in one go, there's no need for more than one credits page. If you're releasing chapters separately, then doing one for each chapter makes more sense.
ToC can be part of the first chapter. And if yout guessed おまけ means "Extra" you're right.

nep40

Thank you for picking this book. This is Mikage Baku.

Did everyone enjoy Hero Neptune (TN: Brave Neptune)?

I was obsessed with the idea of drawing something that you couldn't do in the game, that's where this manga came from, but for that little Nep would have to turn out more stupid than usual.
However, upon playing the game I found out little Nep was even more stupid than I initially thought. That left me saying "What the...?" Neptune sure is cute...

To you readers for being kind enough to pick up this book, and to Compile Hearts for allowing me to perform this act of barbarism before your tepid eyes, thank you very much!
>>6965
For chapter 2's first page, either version is fine actually. Sometimes japanese text includes a second way of saying something with furigana. In this case the text includes both "cypress stick" and "shabby weapon". I usually try to find a way to include both in the text, but in this case either way is fine.
(921.66 KB 1373x1993 45_ugh.jpg)
>>6974
Fair warning to not be surprised if the last page takes time to complete, it'll depend heavily on how the text fits in (or more likely doesn't). I'll decide that once QCanon has done his magic.

>>6975
OK leave chapter 2 alone then. It's only in 3 where it clearly matters that it's a cypress stick.

I drew this manga while I was obsessed with the idea of drawing something that you couldn't do in the game, but for that, Nepko would have to turn out more stupid than usual.
QC: "Nepko" is one of Neptune's nicknames the English community has used as-is.

__To you readers for being kind enough to pick up this book, and to Compile Heart for watching lukewarmly while I performed this act of barbarism, thank you very much!
QC: The "watching lukewarmly" is a reference to Doraemon's "warm gaze". Touhou's "watching warmly" is likely from there as well, and is in a format English readers might better recognize.
